In a close-fought first half, two Chris Elliott goals cancelled out an opening MLS goal, and although NLS scored the next three goals, Tony Albonese bagged a brace to leave the scores tied at 4-4 at half time.

The second half saw Munchers gradually running away with the game, Chris Elliott scoring another five times and Stephen Woods adding another goal. For the last ten minutes, Rob Danson played for MLS after they were reduced to four players through illness, and he came closest to scoring a second half goal for the opponents with a shot that Craig Wilson tipped onto the bar.

This was a much closer game than suggested by the scoreline, the only difference between the sides being in their respective finishing. Blackwood took the lead after five minutes, and added a second three minutes later following a defensive error. From the restart, Tony Albonese pulled a goal back but another defensive lapse saw the two goal lead restored. Just before half time, a fourth goal resulted, and for all Munchers’ possession, they found themselves three goals behind at the interval.

The second half was one-way traffic, with Munchers pressing Homes back without creating many clear-cut chances. Chris Elliott was unlucky with a shot that hit the post, but the only goal of the half came from Blackwood Homes, with a long-range shot that Craig Wilson touched but couldn’t keep out.

After three defeats in a row, this was a comfortable victory to end the first half of the league programme. Three early goals from Tony Albonese, followed by an Andy Dignon effort gave Munchers a 4-0 lead, and although Kronenburg pulled a couple back, Tony netted again just before half time.

It was 6-2 early in the second half after debutant Rob Danson hit a shot that the ‘keeper saved, but the ball bounced out, hit a defender and rebounded into the net. After Kronenburg scored again, Tony hit his fifth, Rob hit the underside of the bar and Tony then completed his double- hat trick. Iain Wilson then stuck two quick goals away, and in the dying seconds Rob hit the underside of the bar again, and from the clearance Kronenburg scored their fourth goal with the last kick of the game.
